Lesson 1: Introduction to Artificial Intelligence.

By the end of this lesson, ākonga can:

  • Describe what AI is.
  • Identify different types of AI.
  • Understand the functions of various AI systems.
  • Interact with various AI tools.
  • Create specific prompts to generate accurate responses.
Lesson 2: te Taiao and biodiversity.

By the end of this lesson, ākonga can:

  • Describe what te Taiao means.
  • Define biodiversity and explain why it’s important for New Zealand.
  • Identify three major threats to New Zealand’s marine biodiversity.
  • Suggest practical actions to help protect New Zealand’s biodiversity.
Lesson 3: Kaitiakitanga, Conservation & AI.

By the end of this lesson, ākonga can:

  • Explain why wildlife conservation is important.
  • Identify a key threat to their chosen species and clearly explain it.
  • Start to link their thinking to being a kaitiaki.
  • Explain how AI supports conservation.
  • Suggest ideas for using AI to protect native species.
Lesson 4: te Taiao o Moana and citizen science.

By the end of this lesson, ākonga can:

  • Identify the key features of the Marine Reserves.
  • Understand the importance of Marine Reserves to the local iwi, conservationists and fisheries.
  • Understand how to identify fish and recognise different species.
Lesson 5: Using machine learning to identify fish.

By the end of this lesson, ākonga can:

  • Explain the relationship between hangarau matihiko (digital technologies) and the environment.
  • Know how machine learning models find patterns in data to classify new information.
  • Train an AI model to distinguish between blue cod and snapper.
  • Recognise the differences between good and bad training data.
Lesson 6: Taking action!

By the end of this lesson, ākonga can:

  • Understand and apply AI concepts to real-world problems.
  • Have an increased awareness of marine biodiversity and conservation efforts.
  • Be able to use creativity, research skills and teamwork.
